Turmalina

Project Summary                                                                                              (Click on Map for larger view)

Through the development of two adits the Spanish originally mined the Turmalina properties.  The properties were then abandoned until August 1961.  Since then, several other mining companies have completed small amounts of work on the concessions.

The Turmalina No.1, No.2 and No.3 mining concessions were then released to the public for application.  MRC1 Exploraciones was awarded two concessions the Turmalina XXII and Turmalina XXIV which contain the copper-molybdenum mineralization over an area of 2.5 km x 1.25 km.

The concessions are located in the region of Piura in Northern Peru and cover approximately 600 hectares.  The topography is very rugged and elevation ranges from 1,000m to 3,200 m above sea level.   The claims are easily accessed via paved and gravel roads from Piura to Canchaque Cross for a total of 172km.

Infrastructure in the area includes plenty of water and power runs over the property.

GENERAL GEOLOGY

The rocks found in and around the area of the claims consist mainly of phyllites and andesitic volcanic rocks, which have been affected by a granodioritic intrusive.  The phyllites are found in Canchaque, west of the claim. These phyllites belong to the Salas Formation of the Lower Paleozoic Period.

Towards the eastern part of the claim there is an outcropping of a strong andesitic volcanic sequence, some of which has been pyritized and in other sectors it was found fresh or silicified.

Structurally, it presents a complex behavior of a breccia and a silicified body Towards the west of the Canchaque site, there are sediments that consist of sandstone and quartzite which have been folded and faulted.

It has been determined there are two different types of mineral deposits in the area of the mining claims. Both types of deposits are connected to a single fracturing and metallization event, these would be associated to a strong tourmalization, silicification, pyritization, quartz injection and metallization.

The different types of mineral deposits are described below:

1.      Tourmalized Breccia

The breccia  conatins Cu, Mo and Ag. The property has  mined on and off from 1963 to 1999 by several different mining companies.

The mineralization has been developed down to a depth of 450 m. over 8 different  Levels.

As of 1997, the existing reserves were:

  • Proven                 220000 MT --- 2.5% Cu
  • Probable              85586 MT --- 2.5% Cu
  • TOTAL                    305586 MT --- 2.5% Cu

The breccia is found 400 m west of the border of the Turmalina XXII claim.

2.      The Turmalina XXII Structure

A silicified structure containing tourmaline in some places;  it outcrops for a length of 1100 m long by 500 m wide and tapers towards the southern end

  • It is located in the western part of the Turmalina XXII and Turmalina XXIV claims, extending on the south from the SW foothills of Cerro Minas and on to the North to a site called Tierra Blanca (white earth) at an elevation of 2370 m above sea level.
  • Two relatively short tunnels have been constructed as part of the exploration work. These tunnels are located in the middle section of the Turmalina XXII property and served to observe the type of mineralization and take representative samples. The mineralization of this structure has the characteristics of copper porphyry.

Further Exploration will include geo-chem sampling, geo-physics, Trenching and drilling.
